How it works
- Sample preparation using a concentration technique similar to that of the modified McMaster
- Replaces standard fecal flotations and provides quantitative fecal ova counts
- Equine-specific AI identifies and classifies fecal parasite ova and produces a detailed report
- Results provided in eggs per gram (EPG) to identify low, medium and high shedders as described by the American Association of Equine Practitioners Internal Parasite Control Guidelines4
The accuracy of Vetscan Imagyst AI FEC analysis was comparable to that of board-certified parasitologists.1
- Fifty-four equine samples were prepared in triplicate with 2 different methods and compared to those manually evaluated microscopically by an expert parasitologist (N=108)
- Samples were assessed for equine fecal parasites—strongyles or Parascaris spp.—and prescreened to include low, medium and high shedders
95% Jeffreys confidence interval.
Compared to Mini-FLOTAC method.
The Sheather’s sugar solution provided the highest sensitivities for the 2 parasites, with performance comparable to that of a reference laboratory method (mini-FLOTAC).1
The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity comparison of Vetscan Imagyst and an expert clinical parasitologist was >99%.1
95% Jeffreys confidence interval.
Substantial agreement between Vetscan Imagyst and expert parasitologists1, as calculated by a Lin’s concordance correlation coefficient†:
Strongyle
0.978
Parascaris spp.
